Sainsbury’s has won our quarterly online Grocer 33 mystery shop, with an 8/10 score for its website, one up from last time. There were no major concerns over substituted items and the driver was courteous, taking the shopping into the hallway. And where, in our last survey, Sainsbury’s used a whopping 11 bags - this time there were only eight.

In joint second place are Waitrose and Ocado - Waitrose was quicker, cheaper and had fewer substitutes, but Ocado just made it to joint second with its lower bag usage, despite the fact the delivery driver was clearly in a rush to get to his next job. And our shopper noted a poor selection on their website.

As well as free delivery the Waitrose site was fast and easy to navigate and offers were clearly marked in red. Unfortunately, the driver did not offer to take the shopping in and just passed bags through the doorway.

A rather disappointing online shop from Tesco: its website scored just 5/10, as there seemed to be a problem selecting one of the items to add to the basket. Also, Tesco didn’t make any substitutions, leaving our shopper short with just 31 items.

Asda offered the cheapest delivery charge but had the highest amount of items substituted or not delivered. Payment was difficult as the website logged our shopper out in the middle of processing it. It also used the highest number of bags. The driver seemed to be in a hurry and did not exchange any pleasantries.
