Clubcard discounts on Kopparberg and Gü lines helped Tesco to the win

Tesco has picked up its first Grocer 33 win of the season, snatching victory from Asda by just 20p.

Tesco and Asda each boasted 13 cheapest items, and Asda had more exclusively cheaper SKUs than its Cheshunt rival. But these small wins weren’t quite enough for overall victory.

Clubcard discounts on branded items – including Kopparberg cider and Gü Zillionaire cheesecake desserts – helped Tesco to inch ahead.

Tesco also did the best job of holding back inflation this week. Its £64.52 total was up by 0.7% on last year and down 4.6% on last month.
