Whether you're marooned at home or smugly sitting at your desk wondering what all the fuss is about, it won’t have escaped your notice that there’s a bit of snow around. Or rather, a lot.

A metre in parts of Scotland and Yorkshire, where temperatures last night plummeted to a bone-chilling -21.1C. And there was 50cm of snow in the usually balmy southeast of England, where many roads are impassable and pretty much all trains have ground to a halt.

We still have to eat, though, which means some brave souls are pulling out all the stops to ensure deliveries get through, shelves remain stocked and stores stay open.

Take the hardy folk at importer Donatantonio. Despite the freezing weather and some staff having a 50-mile daily commute, all staff have managed to get into work this week. They were even out unloading a couple of containers of goods in freezing conditions this morning and deliveries are going out as normal.

Then there’s the Herculean efforts of the Sainsbury's property team, who somehow managed to open seven new stores yesterday, adding more than 200,000 sq ft of new space when other retailers were forced to close stores due to the bad weather.

Coffee Nation is bringing much-needed warmth to commuters stranded at motorway service stations. It says it’s sold an average 4,900 extra drinks a day over the past 10 days.

Here at Grocer Towers, we’d love to hear more of your snow stories, so please do contact us with tales of your Blitz spirit. You can email news@thegrocer.co.uk.

In the meantime, we salute your hard work and dedication. After all, the show – but hopefully not the snow – must go on.
