Dairy UK, the organisation that represents the dairy industry, has announced changes to the hygiene regulations affecting the dairy sector, to come into force on January 1, 2006.
The new legislation focuses on a range of key issues, including the protection of primary products against contamination, ensuring the cleanliness of production animals, keeping clean all facilities used to stores and handle feed and certify staff handling foodstuffs are in good health.
The announcements were made yesterday at a seminar at the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise in Northern Ireland, chaired by Maureen Edmondson, recently appointed board member for Northern Ireland on the Food Standards Agency.
“The Food Standards Agency in Northern Ireland is delighted to work with the industry to produce safe products for consumers, to reduce the burden of inspection and to contribute to Northern Ireland plc through meeting the standards required for the export of dairy products.”
