from Dale Morgan, Watford

Sir; My father Reg Morgan died on January 3 at the age of 81 years. Reg was a pioneer of supermarkets in the 1950s and 1960s, first with Express Dairies and Premier Supermarkets but perhaps more famously as sales director of Anthony Jackson Foodfare and then as MD of Victor Value. Both of these supermarket chains were taken over by Tesco.

After leaving the supermarket industry in the late 1960s/early 1970s, he was MD of Lewis Meesons & Finlay Newsagents & Tobacconists, which was part of the Barker & Dobsons Group.

In 1973 we set up a newsagents business called Dale’s originally based in Harrow and finally sold out to Circle K in December 1986.

My father was very well known, loved and respected across the whole industry and I feel that there will be many like me who are very saddened by his loss.
