One week into Fairtrade Fortnight and our shoppers went in search of goods that guarantee a profit for their producers in the developing world.
No retailer checked in all 10 items, although alternative pack sizes were available in some cases. But a plus point for every store was that staff were more than willing to try to locate Fairtrade products that our shoppers were unable to spot on shelf.
Compared with last year, staff’s knowledge of ethically traded goods had improved. Waitrose just missed out on a full basket because it does not stock Dubble chocolate bars.The Co-op had the most visible promotion, with 20% off all fairly traded goods.
