Guylian low carb
From: Guylian

Guylian has become the second big confectionery player, after Nestlé, to enter the low-carb market with the introduction of a carb-busting version of its Belgian chocolate bar. The variant has proved a success in the US.

I have been trying to stick to a low-carb diet for some time and have found the choice in some food categories limited, including confectionery such as sweets and chocolate.

I have always liked Guylian Seashells, as well as the bar, and as such was interested to see how the low-carb offering would compare.

I was slightly disappointed with the packaging. It looked a little lifeless and did not make me think of it as a treat. Also, it is not instantly recognisable as a Guylian product, which is a shame. However, I liked the fact that it was easy to see how many carbs it contained.

The taste of the chocolate was nice but not quite as creamy and chocolatey as the normal version. However, taking into consideration the low carb count, I would buy the product again.

The packaging of this product is good and clear with bright colours, which will make it stand out within the stores.

The chocolate bar has a smooth and creamy taste with a rich flavour. It was not as sweet as I expected, but still very enjoyable.

If marketed correctly, I think the newcomer will have an appeal. However, I’m not sure how it will compete once the other major confectionery manufacturers start to move into this market, because the manufacturer’s name is not that well known in the UK.

All in all, I think it is a nice product, not outstanding, but meets the needs of a specific market. The price is not an issue at the moment, but could be once other confectionery manufacturers move into this market.
