Scottish Retail Consortium chairman Eddie Thompson has completed his purchase of Dundee United Football Club, in what is rumoured to be a £1m deal.

The founder of Scottish convenience chain Morning, Noon and Night, a lifelong fan of the Scottish premier league club, said he was delighted to be its new chairman.

But he said his top priority would remain running Morning Noon & Night which “pays his salary”.

The company recently reported a record operating profit of £1.25m for the year to March 22 2002 and now operates 45 convenience stores.
