from Billy Tank, MD, Torex Retail Petrol and Convenience division

Sir; In response to your story ‘Independents face EPoS upgrade’ (The Grocer, July 2 p12), I want to point out that Torex Retail has not decided to end all of its DOS-based products. Our SuperNews EPoS solution provided by the newly acquired CTN Solutions, for example, along with our other main retail DOS-based solutions, will continue to be supported.
However, we have decided to begin to bring to end of life some of our oldest DOS-based solutions over the next year, so that customers are able to take advantage of an upgrade to the latest Windows-based touchscreen solutions.
Adopting the latest Windows technology will enable independent retailers to speed up transactions at the point of sale, as well as benefiting from integrated cheque printing, online authorisation and effective stock management.
