CJ Lang chairman Joan Scott-Adie has announced the appointment of David Walker as the firm's new chief executive. Formerly group marketing director, Walker succeeds Alex Murdoch who is retiring. Walker has worked in retail all his life, having held a variety of positions in Woolworths before joining CJ Lang in 1976 as buying controller. During the intervening years he was trading and operations director, retail division managing director, and most recently group md. "Our Spar retail division is part of the world's largest supermarket chain, with 17,500 stores in 28 countries," said Walker. "My objective for Scotland's 400 stores is to take them to 500 by 2005." Walker said CJ Lang's six C&C depots face "a period of consolidation" while the delivered foodservice business will be given a high priority. {{PEOPLE MOVES }}
