Swiss face shortage of sausages

GENEVA: Switzerland could be facing a sausage shortage because of dwindling stocks of Brazilian cows' intestines, which are used to wrap the nation's favourite sausage, the cervelat. The Swiss Meat Association has warned that production may have stalled by this summer, when football fans will descend on the country for the Euro 2008 football tournament. A task force composed of scientists and industry representatives is appealing to Brussels to relax restrictions on the import of intestines from Brazil to boost supply.
