Competition in the chart is extremely close this week with less than two percentage points separating the top five.

Sainsbury moves up to the top of the chart just slightly ahead of Asda at number two. While Asda leans more towards price promotions, Sainsbury focuses more upon buy one get one free and other multibuy offers. Morrisons, Tesco and Safeway have all moved down the chart by two places.

In the category chart, alcoholic drinks remains at the top and has extended its lead back up to six percentage points.

Within the alcoholic drinks section, there are a greater number of price promotions on spirits this week which obviously contributes to its continued domination of the chart.

Soft drinks continues to hold steady in second place with snacks moving up by two places to number three.

Frozen and health and beauty have both been pushed down by one place.

For the fourth week, Walkers remains at the top of the chart with multibuy offers dominating on gondola ends.

Four brands move up the chart, these being Nestlé, Heinz, KP and Stella Artois.

Nestlé at number two makes particularly good use of buy one get one free offers while Stella Artois almost exclusively features price promotions.

Three new entries take numbers seven to nine: PG Tea, Uncle Ben’s and Robinsons.

In the own label category chart, household comes in as a new entry at number one with multibuy and extra fill promotions both dominating.

Soft drinks holds steady in second place while last week’s number one, frozen, has been forced down to third place.
