Warburtons is recalling six-packs of crumpets amid concerns several batches may have been contaminated with pieces of metal.

The baker is asking consumers in Yorkshire, Lancashire, Merseyside, West Midlands, North Wales and Greater Manchester to check the two-line product code next to the best before date.

Packs with W and 3 visible at the end of each line of the two-line code are believed to have small pieces of aluminium inside them.

The products potentially affected feature the best before dates 22/11/10 and 23/11/10.

Concerned retailers should contact Warburtons on 0800 377 7714.
