The Grocer's annual Top Products Survey is published today, with a share of surprises.
Not least among them is the displacement of Kellogg's Corn Flakes as the nation's favourite breakfast cereal, its perennial rival Weetabix now claiming top spot in terms of sales value.
According to Information Resources, which provides the figures for 19 of the 21 categories contained in The Grocer's survey, sales of the sunshine' brand fell by 1.5% across all outlets in the year to October 6, to rest at just below £69m. Weetabix had a 2.3% surge in sales to claim top spot with sales of more than £70m.
Kellogg insisted its breakfast stalwart was still ahead on volume. A spokesman said: "Kellogg's Corn Flakes is the nation's favourite by a mile. It outsells Weetabix by 22.2% in terms of volume."
Elsewhere, Australia's Jacob's Creek overtook Ernest & Julio Gallo as Britain's best selling wine.
