Jamaican lager Red Stripe will next week become the sole responsibility of brewer Charles Wells in the UK. The Bedford-based outfit has been brewing the famous lager under licence since 1976 but packaging, off-trade distribution and marketing had been looked after Bulmer's. However, a new deal between Wells and brand-owner Diageo means Bulmer's now leaves the Red Stripe stable to concentrate on its other lager interests in the UK  Amstel and San Miguel. John Irvine, of the Red Stripe Beer Company, said: "It makes commercial sense to have one organisation responsible for managing and developing the brand in the UK and European market place. The handover takes place on Monday (July 15). {{DRINKS }}
