Welsh daffodils have hit supermarket shelves a fortnight earlier than last year thanks to the mild weather over Christmas.
The early appearance of the outdoor grown flowers will provide a boost to the Welsh cut flower industry, with the Pembrokeshire grown blooms being the first to appear on supermarket shelves this season.
The daffodils, grown on a farm in Tenby, have gone on sale in Asda stores in Wales, having been supplied by grower packager Tir Ni. The company is part of the Fenmarc group, which supplies prepared and fresh vegetables, primarily to Asda.
'Tir Ni' translates as 'our land' and general manager Dewi Williams said he hoped national pride would encourage Welsh consumers to buy home-grown daffs. "We have a passion for growing high-quality produce and supporting local farmers," he said.
Flowering dates for Welsh daffodils can vary greatly according to the weather, with warmer winters causing the flowers to bloom earlier.
