Sports nutrition brand The Protein Works is launching what it says is the world’s first protein popcorn.
Naked Protein Popcorn is produced with whey protein and coconut oil and sweetened with stevia. It comes in 100g tubs (rsp: £3.99) in two flavours: sweet & salty and marbled chocolate.
The product contains 21.7g of protein per 100g, which compares to around 5-10g in most popcorns.
Co-founder Nick Smith said the popcorn had taken social media “by storm”.
“We sold out in a matter of hours as the hashtag #ProteinPopcorn went viral around Twitter,” he said. “We’re overwhelmed by the response and are so glad people share our passion for unique and healthy snacks.”
The corn is available to buy on The Protein Works website, and the company is in discussions with retailers.
