Marks & Spencer has been named Britain’s most trusted brand in a survey that also revealed Tesco as the second least trusted.

The country’s biggest grocer is only marginally more trusted than high street bank Barclays, whose reputation took a battering after the PPI mis-selling and Libor rate rigging scandals, according to a Which? poll.

Thirteen per cent of consumers list Barclays as their least trusted brand, compared to 12% for Tesco. McDonald’s came in as third least trusted with 9% of the votes.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, M&S won maximum trust for 14% of consumers with Apple coming in second with 11%and Heinz in third with 10%. M&S’s customer service, fair trade credentials and treatment of staff were cited as reasons for the retailer’s high score.
