The Co-operative Group has sold a further two stores to Aldi as it continues the sell-off of its larger stores.

The stores, in Portishead, Somerset, and Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, will both close in February and reopen as Aldi. They follow the sale of five Co-op stores to Aldi in August this year.

Separately, two further Co-op stores are set to close in mid-January - in Pontarddulais, Swansea, and Berwick, Northumberland. The Berwick store will be taken over by discounter B&M Bargains.

The Co-op has been selling off larger stores for some time in order to focus on convenience, with plans to open 120 c-stores a year.
