Tesco today rolled out its new Healthy Living range, with more than 230 products reformulated to be lower in salt, sugar or fat.

The retailer has relaunched a raft of products, including bakery items, ready meals, yoghurts and healthy treats. It said 85% of its Healthy Living range was either new or improved, with none featuring red lights under the government’s new front-of-pack labelling system.

The new Healthy Living brand replaces Tesco Light Choices and Tesco Eat Live Enjoy.

Tesco is also skewing promotions in favour of the new products, with 3 for 2 deals running across the range, except for sandwiches, which are already included in meal-deal offers.

“Helping our customers and colleagues to lead healthier lifestyles is very important to us,” said Tesco UK marketing director David Wood. “This range represents a shift in the way we think about healthy foods – we want to give our customers great-tasting products that make choosing healthier options easy,” he added.

Tesco said all products in the range contained at least 30% fewer calories than comparative products, with the range including seven new low-fat desserts, a wider array of vegetables in recipes such as curries, and a reduction of up to 45% in sugar used in its yogurts – a figure attained by increased use of Stevia.

Products in the range include Chicken Laksa Noodles 300g, containing 265 calories per pack; Spiced Butternut Squash with Fruity Pilaf & Feta 330g; and desserts including Chocolate Sundae and Banoffee Muffin Dessert.
