The Daily Mail reports the findings of a survey by compiled by price tracing mobile app Can I Eat It? which show the cost of everyday items at Britain’s biggest supermarket Tesco is rising at its lowest rate for decades as it fights to win back shoppers from Aldi and Lidl. The price of 20 of the most popular branded groceries rose by 38% between 2000 and 2005, but they rose by just 12% between 2005 and 2015, the findings suggest.

Scotch whisky producer Edrington, which owns the Macallan and Famous Grouse brands, has written off almost £239m from the value of its Brugal rum after contraband from Caribbean smugglers impacted sales in its domestic Dominican Republic market. It put a 2.5% dent on the group’s annual revenues , down to £617m, while pre-tax profits fell by almost 10% to £157m (The Telegraph).
