IFE 2013 ended on Wednesday, following a raft of new product announcements in different sectors. Here we run through some of the snacks launches that caught our eye.

Munchy seeds snacks

Seeds brand Munchy is adding honey seeds and spiced roasted seed mix chilli bites (above) to its 25g grab-and-go sachet range, which is available in counter-top display cases of 24 packs. The chilli bites are listed in selected Waitrose convenience stores and Tescos.

Veronica’s organic crisps

Free-from Irish snack supplier Veronica’s has brought its range of baked organic crisps to the UK. Launched in Ireland at the beginning of last year, the company is now hoping to tap into the burgeoning UK free-from market with its range of gluten-free baked organic crisps.

The three-strong range comprises sour cream, barbecue, and herb & onion flavours and comes in single and sharing formats. Available now, the crisps contain no trans fat or wheat and provide 60% less fat than regular crisps, said company founder Veronica Kenneally. 

The brand is currently revamping its packaging to increase the prominence of its gluten-free claim, which is recognised by the Coeliac Society of Ireland. The range had already built up a fan base in Ireland and is sold in 100 shops and supermarkets, including Dunnes Stores and SuperValu, said Kenneally. The business, which has Irish distribution deals in place with Brand Shapers and Wholefoods Wholesale, is planning new products this year, including a veggie crisps range and fruit bars.

Pure Beef snacks

A natural beef snacking brand has been launched to rival traditional protein supplements.

The brainchild of a group of fitness fanatics, Pure Beef is a natural high-protein snack made from 100% British grass-fed beef. Positioned as an “ideal pre- or post-workout snack”, it contains 56g of protein, 4.4g fat per 100g, zero carbs and is sugar and gluten-free. 

Buddy Fruits puree

French healthy fruit snacking business Buddy Fruits has brought its pureed fruits range to the UK. Pitched as a convenient alternative to fresh fruit, the range contains no added sugar, additives or preservatives. It comes in two flavours – apple & strawberry and mango, apple & passion fruit – In a 90g re-sealable pouch format and contains less than 60 calories per portion. The company has also launched a four-strong range of gelatine-free natural fruit snacks that are made from 100% natural fruits and contain no preservative.  Each 28g pack contains less than 100 calories.

Oloves dipping range

Healthy snacking brand Oloves has added a dipping range to its olives-on-the-go portfolio. The Dipin range is available now in a 40g snack size format in three variants – pepper & artichoke bruschetta, classic hummus and black olive tapenade. Each pack contains 70 calories, is vegan-friendly and gluten-free.
