Aldi has become the latest company to pull lasagne and spaghetti Bolognese products off shelves, following problems at a French supplier.

The discounter said it had withdrawn its Today’s Special Frozen Beef Lasagne and Today’s Special Frozen Spaghetti Bolognese as a precautionary measure after being alerted by its French supplier, Comigel, that the products may “not confirm to specification”.

“They have been withdrawn immediately so that Aldi can conduct its own investigations into the factory concerned,” the retailer said. “These investigations are continuing.”

Aldi did not specify what ‘not confirming to specification’ meant.

Earlier today, Tesco said it had withdrawn Everyday Value spaghetti Bolognese, while Findus UK said it had pulled 320g, 360g and 500g packs of its Findus Beef Lasagne.

The products are also produced by Comigel.

Findus UK said there had been a “labelling issue” at Comigel but declined to say what the problem with the labelling was. It added it was working closely with the Food Standards Agency and Trading Standards, and was currently conducting “a full re-assessment of our supplier’s sourcing”.

Tesco said: “Following the withdrawal of Findus beef lasagne, which is produced by Comigel, we have decided to withdraw our frozen Everyday Value Spaghetti Bolognese, which is produced at the same site, as a precautionary measure.

“There is no evidence that our product has been contaminated and the meat used in the Findus product is not used in our product. However, we have decided to withdraw the product pending the results of our own tests.”

The product withdrawals come amid the continuing horse meat contamination scandal involving frozen burgers.
