Costcutter has made a number of new appointments as it looks to drive its new business model.

Daniel Quest (above) is joining Costcutter as retail director. He has spent the previous 11 years with Musgrave Group, the last four of which as sales director for Budgens.

UK sales & development director David Thompson is moving to the new role of customer services director in a move the retailer said would see him focus on increased member support services through the transition period to the new operating model.

In March Costcutter announced a new venture with Palmer & Harvey that sees it taking over the management of P&H’s retail operations while P&H handles the distribution for all Costcutter stores.

Quest will be responsible for delivering a long-term sales and member support strategy that will add increased value to members and the Costcutter business.

As part of a wider management shake-up trading director Angela Barber is set to become managing director for Costcutter’s Rhythm & Booze off-licence business. She will remain in her current role until a replacement is appointed. In the meantime former joint-MD at Bargain Booze Matthew Dashper-Hughes is taking up the position of interim MD for Rhythm & Booze.

“To successfully deliver our strategic business plan it is crucial that we have the strongest possible leadership team,” said Costcutter chief executive Darcy Willson-Rymer. “I am therefore delighted that Daniel and Matthew are joining Costcutter as they bring a wealth of experience and industry knowledge to the business which will be invaluable as we continue our journey and set about leading the sector change and consolidation that is needed in order for independent retailers’ livelihoods to prosper.”

Along will the new arrivals at Costcutter, The Grocer can also reveal that marketing director Ian Bishop and senior marketing manager Jenny Holmes are leaving to take up similar posts at Nisa.

Costcutter gave notice to terminate its more than 25-year relationship with Nisa when it confirmed the tie-up with P&H.
