Martin Williams

Landmark Wholesale MD Martin Williams is to leave the group at the end of this year.

Williams, who has been with Landmark Wholesale for over 33 years, has agreed an “amicable departure” from the buying group and will step down in December.

Williams has been managing director of the group for 14 years, before which, he spent five years as trading director.

“After 33 great years with Landmark Wholesale, I have decided that the time is right for me to step down from my role as managing director and leave the business,” said Williams

“I have served as a director of Landmark for 19 years with 14 of them as managing director. I am very proud of the group, its members and my record as MD. I would like to thank the Landmark Wholesale board for their support in agreeing an amicable departure with me which will take place at the end of December. I have made many friends in my time at Landmark, and I leave behind some great memories.”

A Landmark spokeswoman added, “Martin has been an instrumental part of our success, particularly in his five years as our trading director and the last 14 years as our managing director. We didn’t want him to leave but respect his decision. He leaves with our very best wishes for his future career.”

Williams told The Grocer that he was looking for a change and something different to do as he approached the end of his working career. He has spent 41 years working in grocery since leaving school at 17.

A replacement has not yet and until then Williams’ responsibilities will be split between finance director Andrew Thewlis and trading director John Searle.

Williams is also coming to the end of his stint as chairman of the Federation of Wholesale Distributors - a new chair will be announced next month. .
