Sales at household goods giant Reckitt Benckiser rose by 8% in the past three months, the Dettol and Cillit Bang maker has announced.

Total sales for the first six months of the year reached £3.78bn, an increase of 23%, with public concern over swine flu thought to have boosted sales of disinfectants.

“Reckitt Benckiser had a very good first half despite challenging market conditions, said chief executive Bart Becht. “All regions and our 17 Powerbrands contributed to this growth, supported by continued investment and successful product initiatives.”

He added: “There are pockets where private label is gaining share but not at our expense.”
