Cake is in rude health. The take-home market alone is worth £1.9bn with Brits splashing out an extra £43m on cake over the past year [Kantar 52 w/e 17 July 2016].

Discounters Aldi and Lidl saw huge gains this year with sales up 23.2% and 28.4%, respectively, while only Tesco, Asda and Morrisons saw a dip in sales. Despite the growth, the discounters still hold a relatively small share of the market.
