Tesco is supporting this year’s Notting Hill Carnival with in-store displays, offers and sponsorship of a float in the street party’s parade.

The supermarket said it would support volunteers, offer in-store exclusives and encourage community involvement with the event, which takes place this Sunday (24th) and Monday (25th).

“We are absolutely delighted to be supporting this year’s Notting Hill Carnival,” said Jodi Clarke, London community manager for Tesco. “The festival is such a vibrant and unique London event and we are very proud to take part – myself and some of our team members will be dancing in the parade!

“Stores near the parade will have everything Carnival-goers need from rum cocktails to plantain crisps, and stores throughout London are getting into the spirit with amazing Afro-Caribbean products and promotions,” she added.

Special offers on Tesco’s Caribbean range have been introduced in stores citywide until Wednesday 27 August, including £5 for 6 Carib and/or Banks beers, £5/5kg Mai Thai Jasmine Rice and £1 for two 310ml bottles of Grace Coconut Water

London outlets will also offer exclusive Carnival-friendly plastic bottles of Carlsberg, Heineken and Somersby.

Tesco will sponsor the Caribbean extravaganza’s longstanding costume band Funatik Mas, whose parade float will bear a banner adorned with its logo.

Funatik Mas performed at Tesco’s Countdown to Carnival event at the Notting Hill Gate Metro earlier this month, which also featured traditional Caribbean dancers and food tastings of Tesco’s Caribbean range.

The supermarket’s Notting Hill Gate and Portobello Road Metro stores have been given a Carnival-themed makeover and will hand out free jute bags to customers during the event.

And both outlets will compete for the title of Best Carnival Store via Tesco’s Twitter feed, which will encourage followers to vote for the better store using #voteNHG and #votePBR hashtags.
