Lidl has launched another set of its Stikeez characters for children to collect in its stores.

The promotion follows the success of its Euro Stikeez collection in May and June when eight million of the toys were snapped up within two weeks ahead of the Euro 2016 football championships.

The discounter has now launched its ‘Stikeez in Space’ set, with 16 million of the plastic toys available in stores from today (Thursday), themed around British astronaut Tim Peake’s space voyage.

One of the 24 different alien characters, which include three that glow in the dark, will be offered on every basket spend of more than £10.

An extra 4.3 million of the toys were also being made available to buy for 29p each, along with a limited number of collector albums and collector bags.

Lidl said its previous Stikeez prompted a playground craze with children swapping and sharing the characters to complete their collections.

It said its latest ‘Stikeez in Space’ set followed Tim Peake’s return to earth in June after 185 days in space, a voyage that prompted a fascination with what lay beyond the final frontier.
