waitrose wonky veg carrots

Waitrose has followed Asda’s move to extend its trial of wonky veg boxes by launching its own range of misshapen seasonal produce.

The grade two veg range, sold under the ‘a little less than perfect’ strap, went on sale in 40 branches across the UK on Monday, and consists of larger bags of carrots, potatoes, onions and parsnips with imperfections such as being misshaped, broken, or with blemishes and splits.

The types of fruit & veg offered would change with the seasons, Waitrose said. Less than six months ago, TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall exposed the retailer for throwing out large quantities of edible food in Hugh’s War on Waste.
