Following on from reports last week that Carrefour had disposed of its Mexican and Japanese operations, the company has just announced it has sold 29 supermarkets plus two in construction in Mexico, to Mexican retailer Chedraui.

Chedraui operates 64 stores, mostly in the southern part of the country.

Carrefour’s exits from Japan and Mexico are part of its programme of selling E1bn of non-strategic and under-performing assets, as announced in September 2004.
