Yorkshire-based food manufacturer Cranswick has announced it is planning to buy a division of Perkins Foods for £80.6m.

Cranswick will be acquiring Perkins Chilled Foods (PCF), which comprises Brookfield Foods and Studleigh-Royd, which provides a range of cooked meats and poultry products to a number of UK food retailers and to the food service sector.

Carnswick’s chairman, Martin Davey, said: “The acquisition of PCF is a major step in Cranswick’s strategic development. It is a business we have long admired and the management teams of both companies are well known to each other. The product ranges are complementary and we look forward to providing our customers with an enhanced range of products.”

In the year to December 2003 PCF made a pre-tax operating profit of £10.2m on sales of £115m.
