Sainsbury’s is claiming to be the first retailer to launch a complete chilled Mexican food range.

The 20-strong line-up launches in 545 Sainsbury’s stores today, with items priced from £1.50 to £6.00. Products include Jalapeno Roasted Mushrooms Naked Burrito Bowl, Chicken & Chorizo Mexican Rice, Mexican Red Rice and Corn Bread.

“As the trend for Mexican restaurants and food trucks is on the rise, we’re proud to have developed a range of dishes that capture the flavours and vibrancy that are proving so popular,” said Sainsbury’s product developer Romilly Edelmann.

“Our starting point was to sit down with a true Mexican chef to learn what makes great Mexican food. From this we’ll be launching everything from Chicken Tinga Quesadillas to Potatoes & Chorizo.”
