The Co-operative Group claims it is offering its most ethical Easter yet after cutting the packaging on its Fairtrade chocolate eggs.

The mutual said more than five tonnes of waste had been cut from its Fairtrade chocolate this Easter, including a reduction of 28% on eggs and 17%  on boxed chocolates.

It is also stocking Fairtrade chocolate bunnies and Champagne truffles.

News of the reduction in waste comes on the day the government officially unveiled the second stage of its Courtauld waste reduction agreement.
