SSL International, the maker of Durex condoms and Scholl footcare products, is celebrating a stellar year after profits shot up by more than 50%.

Pre-tax profits for the year to 31 March surged to £115.3m, with sales up almost a quarter (24.9%) to £802.5m.

Taking out the effects of currency changes and the acquisitions of two condom manufacturers in Eastern Europe, organic sales grew by just under 2%.

Sales of Durex performed ahead of overall growth, up by 4%.

“The twin drivers of innovation-led organic growth in Durex and Scholl and well-chosen acquisitions support both our earnings targets… and our continuing longer-term growth ambitions,” the company said in a statement yesterday.
