Britain’s two biggest selling wines, Blossom Hill’s Soft & Fruity red and Crisp & Fruity white [Nielsen w/e 5 January 2013], are shrinking… literally. Brand owner Percy Fox & Co reckons the addition of the smaller 50cl format (rsp: £3.29) will prove a hit with the midweek convenience market, offering a lower price point and cutting down waste for drinkers who are watching their units. The brand is also rolling out a version of its White Zinfandel rosé in the smaller format (rsp: £4.99).

Polo shirts for your Champers? Very Wills & Kate. Lanson is marking its 25 years as a Wimbledon sponsor with limited-edition neoprene polo shirt-style jackets. Available at Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Morrisons, the jackets - in three colours to match the fizz inside - are aimed at keeping Champagne cooler for longer (rsp: £33.99 £39.99 for rosé).

 

Gallo Summer White, Pink Moscato

Tapping the trend for sweet ‘n’ light, Gallo is rolling out a new low-alcohol SKU to the big four. The 5.5% abv Summer White (rsp: £6.99) has been developed following the success of the brand’s 2011 Summer Red. An integrated £1m comms campaign will include TV. Gallo has also added a pink moscato to its Barefoot brand (rsp: £6.99).

 

BySainsbury’s Winemaker Selection

Sainsbury’s is adding to its mid-tier bySainsbury’s Winemaker Selection with American, French and Italian wines. Hitting the £5 to £8 bracket, the wines are aimed at showcasing quintessential styles and grape varieties from around the world. To help consumers choose, the labels have more information than usual, adds the retailer.
