Heineken has installed thousands of solar panels across its Tadcaster and Dutch breweries

Heineken has given its Sol brand a refresh, playing up the fact it is now brewed completely with solar energy

New packs have rolled out with the tagline ‘Brewed With Solar Energy’ to reflect the shift, after the installation of thousands of solar panels across its breweries.

The brewer has installed 4,000 panels at its UK site in Tadcaster and 9,212 at its Dutch base, which now power the entirety of its brewing process.

The new look for Sol “dials up the iconic sun symbol and bright brand colours to reaffirm Sol’s aim to connect people to the positive energy from the sun”, said Heineken.

It comes as sales of the brand have surged over the year, more than doubling (+113.3%) to £35.7m – an £18.9m rise, on volumes up 126.6% [Nielsen 52 w/e 5 September 2020]

Sol was “all about the sun and our new tagline, ‘Brewed with Solar Energy’, reinforces our authentic, long-standing connection to it, whilst also showcasing our goal of becoming more carbon neutral to our sustainability-minded shoppers”, said Heineken premium beer unit brand director Matt Saltzstein.
