Waitrose has expanded its low & no drinks offering

Waitrose has reported a massive surge in sales of low and non-alcoholic drinks during lockdown.

The retailer said low & no alcohol beer sales were up 50% on last year, with alcohol-free spirits up 49%. Searches for ‘virgin cocktails’ on its site were up 100%, it said, while ‘non alcoholic’ was up 211% and ‘non alcoholic beer’ 29.8%.

Its low & no alcohol buyer Alex Valentine said the growing trend had encouraged Waitrose to expand its range of non-alcoholic beers, wines and spirits.

“As more customers look to reduce their alcohol intake, they are able to use this growing range to creatively recreate their favourite tipples with even more ease”, she added.

William Reed - the publisher of The Grocer - has launched an exhibition exclusively for the low and non-alcoholic drinks sector. For more information visit www.low2nobev.com
