Asda’s York refill store stocks over 100 branded and own-brand products sold loose in a huge 18-bay refill zone

Asda has opened its largest refill store to date, in York.

The latest opening – Asda’s third ‘sustainability store’, the first of which opened in Leeds last year – is also the biggest refill store in the UK, according to the supermarket.

Asda’s refill stores offer household brands without the usual packaging thanks to a ground-breaking tie-up with fmcg giants such as Unilever, Kellogg’s and Nestlé.

The store in York’s Monk Cross stocks over 100 branded and own-brand products sold loose in a huge 18-bay refill zone.

The range includes Yorkshire tea, Kellogg’s cereals, Napolina pasta and an extensive selection of Asda-brand cereals, rice and pasta, all sold at the same price or cheaper than packaged equivalents.

Customers visiting the store can fill their own containers or buy a reusable one.

“Creating the largest refill zone in a UK supermarket is a real achievement and was made possible thanks to a huge cross-functional effort from Asda colleagues and our supplier partners,” said Asda director of commercial sustainability Susan Thomas.

“We hope the sheer variety offered across our range of 100 branded and own-label loose products, plus bringing together several simple ways for customers to reduce, reuse or recycle at home, means every one of our shoppers can find a reason to participate in our offer and help move us towards refill being part of every shopping trip.”
