1 There was just one item missing when our mystery shopper visited Asda Patchway on Highwood Lane in Bristol. The store was sold out of the 1 litre bottle of Schweppes tonic water. She also noted that the gondola ends were poorly stocked and many of the products were out of place.

0 The Morrisons store on Hookstone Chase in Starbeck, Harrogate had every item listed on our shopping list this week. Our mystery shopper also reported that the staff there were extremely diligent about walking shoppers over to the shelf spaces of any items for which they were looking.

2 There were two items out of stock when we visited the Sainsbury's store in Chiswick, West London. The store was sold out of a key staple: the 4-pint bottle of own label semi-skimmed milk. Another item out of stock was McCain hash browns 700g. The store did not carry Sacla' classic pesto.

We visited on 13 October 2006 at 10:20. Our shop lasted 55 minutes. Time spent at the checkout was 4 minutes.

somerfield New Malden, Surrey



0 There were no items missing when we visited the Somerfield store in New Malden, Surrey, which also won this week's Top Store award. Our mystery shopper said the store's clean, clear layout made it extremely easy for him to shop. On the rare occasions he needed help, the staff at this busy high street store walked him to the item.

tesco Antrim Road, Belfast, Northern Ireland



3 Three items were sold out when we visited the Tesco store on Antrim Road in Belfast: Amoy medium noodles, the in-store bakery wholemeal loaf and fresh turkey steak. Our mystery shopper also noted that the staff directed him to the wrong product when he asked for help finding the cheapest Brie.

waitrose Horsham, West Sussex



2 There were two items missing when our mystery shopper turned up at the Waitrose store in Horsham on a Friday evening. The store was sold out of McCain hash browns 700g and own label fresh penne pasta 500g. However, it had the 250g size of penne pasta available.
