Bird's Eye Walls sales director Tony Pearce has won The Grocer Cup for Outstanding Achievement in the industry over the past 12 months. After a massive voting response from readers of The Grocer, he emerged as the winner in this year's poll. Pearce received his award from last year's winner, Tesco CEO Terry Leahy, at the IGD's Food Industry Awards. A passionate advocate of Efficient Consumer Response, Pearce is president of the National Grocers' Benevolent Fund and was, until recently, chairman of the IGD board of directors. He received his award to a standing ovation from many of the 600 people attending the awards ceremony. It was a good night for Unilever as it also scooped another big prize the President's Award for its support for IGD activities. Aberness Foods won the John Sainsbury 1990 Cup for its commitment to training. And Tesco's Computers for Schools initiative received the Nestlé Award for social commitment. The Ian MacLaurin Award for Supply Chain Excellence was presented to Irish group Superquinn. And Sainsbury won the Tetra Pak packaging design consumer award.
