And now for something completely different… Spam popcorn.

That’s the ‘treat’ awaiting Monty Python fans who attend a live screening of the Monty Python stage show at Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle upon Tyne on Sunday (20 July).

Ahead of the screening of the performance at the O2 Arena – which is being shown in 570 UK cinemas – Python characters such as Sir Lancelot and The Viking will hand out Spam popcorn in specially designed popcorn cartons.

“We’re delighted to be giving our audiences the chance to see the Pythons’ hotly anticipated reunion broadcast live on the big screen,” said Tyneside Cinema marketing manager Chris Scott. “To help make it an evening our audience won’t forget, and in the spirit of the Pythons’ famous Spam Song, everyone who attends will receive a free box of Spam Popcorn.”

Spam features prominently in a Monty Python sketch first broadcast in 1970 in which almost every item on a cafe’s menu includes the meat product.
