According to slang arbiter Urban Dictionary, ‘juice’ has multiple meanings: it can refer to energy, power and – confusingly – alcohol.
Juice (as in ‘the liquid from fruit’) brand J2O relies on another definition in its new ad: ‘juice’ as in gossip. In a pub garden, a group of pals catch up. “How was that wedding?” asks one. In return, she gets “the juice” – a six-second, eight-scene round-up of the event’s highlights and lowlights.
It’s as witty as it is efficient – and as it all moves so fast, repeated viewings offer extra laughs, particularly when you spot our narrator’s role in proceedings.
The ad doesn’t outstay its welcome, and the formula could easily be adapted for other gossip-generating events. The setting, meanwhile, reinforces J2O’s status as the drink of choice for non-boozing pub-goers. Clever!
