Heineken has made the most of its Formula 1 partnership over the past few years, tapping up the likes of Max Verstappen, Nico (and Keke) Rosberg and Jackie Stewart to star in ads.

Now it’s got the new F1 movie to work with – which shouldn’t be a problem for a brand that’s previously run an ad with Daniel Craig in full James Bond mode. But it hasn’t entirely nailed it.

The ad sees movie star Damson Idris wondering around on set with a Heineken 0.0. People keep wishing him well with his driving, to his evident confusion. Then co-star Brad Pitt shows up in an F1 car… and drives off again. Looks like Idris isn’t driving after all. Oh well, he could have done, seems to be the point.

Then we get a mildly funny bit of business with a crossword. Maybe it’ll make sense after we’ve seen the movie.
