Cider brand Somersby has been quiet for a while – but it’s returning with a summer campaign titled ‘Time Out from the Bullshit’. Swearing: how edgy!

A pair of ads see the debut of ‘Mr Somersby’ – a genial American who rescues a pair of Brits from their respective dimly lit worlds of nonsense. First up, a man who is in thrall to his AI smart speaker, which insults him, forces him to dance and is about to steal a kiss when our hero turns up. Mr S does the same for a woman who is similarly lost in an online world of light therapy masks, scented candles and facials.

Despite these slightly reductive characterisations, the transition to nature is an appealing one, and both characters shake off their weird ways with ease.

As for that (unnecessary) naughty word… either no one will mind and some will find it refreshing/amusing, or some complaints to the ASA will raise a bit of free extra publicity. Cheers!
