With its cleanliness-obsessed lothario Juan Sheet, Plenty managed something previously unthinkable: a memorable ad for boring old kitchen roll.

Juan has had his day – but the brand is keeping things (relatively) edgy: its new campaign seizes upon a Gen Z slang term for an ambiguous romantic or sexual relationship to bring us ‘a kitchen situationship’. Saucy!

“I love you but hate this muck,” a song-poem begins, over a montage of good-looking young people sensually making a mess in the kitchen. It’s a real “grime scene”: oozing oil, spurted sauces. The song gives us a naughty subverted rhyme – “a tsunami of yuck / why don’t you give a… moment’s thought” before matching up its couples with… hugs. Use your imagination, viewers.

Juan may be gone, but his spirit remains – and this ad’s conclusion gives him (and his bold clean-up claim) a shout-out, too.
