While it’s not wildly original for an ad focusing on taste to take us inside the mouth of its star, ready-to-eat burger brand Rustlers has come up with a playful take on the idea.
As the burger approaches the maw of our ad’s heroine, we’re transported into a red ballroom, where white-clothed tables cleverly represent teeth. As a strange man cranks a gramophone, our gal reappears, clad in a tux, and proceeds to dance with her partner. The word ‘beef’ reoccurs on the funky soundtrack. It’s odd, but effective – and the ad resists becoming self-consciously zany.
David Lynch would surely have approved – certainly of the ad’s daft ‘end credits’, which poke fun at what we’ve seen and tell us its star “remained trapped in a taste metaphor for the rest of her days”. Yikes.
