Recent whisky-based ads of the week have been helmed by craggy old dudes – Willem Dafoe for Laphroaig and Harrison Ford for Glenmorangie – so Johnnie Walker’s signing of pop starlet Sabrina Carpenter certainly stands out.

Carpenter doesn’t look like a typical whisky drinker – but that’s the point. “They told her it was a man’s world,” a voiceover growls. “They said whisky wasn’t her drink.” Carpenter airily waves away both notions.

As the voiceover points out that taste evolves, Carpenter pets a puppy at her feet – a reference to her ‘Man’s Best Friend’ album. She’s served a large glass of neat JW – but perhaps her younger fanbase will be tempted into the world of scotch by the trio of ‘signature serve’ cocktails she’s co-created. And yes, one of them contains espresso…
