Snickers’ ‘You’re Not You When You’re Hungry’ campaign has previous with football – ads have starred managers Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho, as well as ‘Dan’, a changing room sulker who memorably turned into Joan Collins.
There are no such transformations in the brand’s new ad – but with the Women’s Euros approaching, it has signed up Spanish star Aitana Bonmati. The World Cup winner is amusingly deadpan as she fronts Snickers’ tongue-in-cheek campaign to stamp out diving.
Bonmati reviews footage of some particularly egregious dives, concluding there’s just one reason anyone would be so pathetic: hunger. We then see her, tracksuited up, thrusting Snickers bars into the hands of the afflicted. A voiceover adds to the fun, sarcastically framing the fragile footy players as victims, in the manner of a charity appeal.
It’s funny – and a great way for Snickers to broaden its campaign’s appeal beyond blokes.
