Asda has promoted deputy trading director Dave Cheesewright to logistics director with a brief to significantly improve supply chain operations.
The multiple said Cheesewright's move followed a highly successful year working for Richard Baker when he was deputy chief operating officer. Baker has since been promoted to chief operating officer.
According to Asda, Cheesewright was responsible for "revolutionising" trading and supply through the development of a central merchandising team. He reports directly to president and chief executive Tony DeNunzio who said: "Since joining Asda three years ago, Dave has made a major contribution as business unit director for grocery, beers, wines and spirits and frozen food and was instrumental in leading our EDLP strategy.
"In his new role Dave will lead the distribution and supply teams, bringing his strong people skills, sound business judgement and strategic insight to our supply and depot programme."
Cheesewright previously worked for Mars Confectionery before joining Asda. He will be replaced by Andy Ellis, who will assume the newly created post of merchandise operations director. Ellis will aim to ensure consistency throughout the supply chain by focusing on areas such as replenishment and training. He will report to Cheesewright.
